I wrote a book
I’ve been pretty AWOL on this blog because all my writing energy has gone into creating a book. It’s called How We Make Stuff Now. McGraw Hill Business is publishing it in early 2019. I’m psyched to take on this new venture and see how publishing works.
The point of the book is to help people learn inside tips for building great consumer product companies. It is based on Grommet’s ten years of working with almost 3,000 Makers. The back bone of the book is composed of real life Maker case studies.
Right now the manuscript is in the hands of my McGraw Hill editor. I was supposed to get it back from her today. I am kind of glad she has not delivered it (yet) as I am able to maintain my delusion that responding to her edits will be painless.
When it’s out in the wild, I will later reveal what it was like to write a book. It was not what I expected, at least so far.
Anyway, bucket list item, check.

Big congrats on this accomplishment.

Thanks Jill.
You continue to humble us! I have always been intrigued how very busy people find the time to write a book? I have some very vague thoughts of doing this when not busy, but that might be exactly the wrong time for completing such a project. Look forward to the read.

Two things: 1) I had help in creating the outline and I have a great researcher assembling the case studies. I do the thinking/content outside the case studies. And 2) I just committed to it in a weekly 1/2 a week for several months. I tried hard to protect that from November to my deadline June 1. So structure helped.
Congratulations, Jules. I’m so happy for you. – Julie R.
Thank you Julie. All my (very modest) literary aspirations started in editing session somewhere in a classroom aerie or KSA lobby.
Congratulations
