As an investor, founder, CEO and business book author, I write about startups, design, how to build a good business, and I like to muse about culture in any form.

IDEO at Nantucket

I’m just back from the Nantucket Conference. It included two sessions on design thinking, and it was fun to trade notes about the design “biz” with Tim Brown, the CEO of IDEO. Having been at IDEO’s competitor Design Continuum when it was a startup, and now on their advisory board, I have a lot of reasons to root for the success of both IDEO, Continuum, and everyone in the space. I am always grateful to IDEO’s David Kelly and Tim Brown for articulating and elevating the understanding of design as a strategic imperative in business.

My friend Sim Simeonov, of Polaris Venture Partners, did a nice write-up of one of the IDEO sessions on Nantucket. He included a little video interview on how being a designer prepared me for work in three startups.
